Each week girls and ladies learn and work to perfect the set routines for the year. Routines are taught gradually over terms 1 and 2 and then refined and perfected as the year progresses.
From the age of seven girls and ladies compete in teams as well as individually. In term two or three of the year your instructress will allocate teams of six and practices will vary between practice for individual competition and team competition.
As the year progresses clubs will often introduce a second weekly class to aid in competition preparation.
Girls can commence physi from the age of three or four providing they can be separated from their parents for the length of time required to participate in the class.
Physi is a fantastic sport for all ages and abilities. If regaining your fitness, physi will help keep you moving and as you improve you will be able to push yourself and challenge your limits further as you work to master the routines.
For our mature members we have a number of different ladies section including a Masters Advanced Ladies competition for our over 60’s.
In class girls and ladies should always wear close or form fitting clothing which allows free movement. Most gym, yoga and dance clothes are suitable. It is important that your instructress can see the lines of your body at all times to correct positions and ensure correct alignment to help prevent injury.
For competitions girls and ladies will require a leotard, with a skirt and ballet shoes. With the exception of some basic coverage rules (eg. No bare midriffs) which your instructress will be able to advise you on, girls and ladies are free to express their creativity through their choice of leotard style, colour and decoration.
We have several different levels of competition. Competitions are not compulsory, however participation is actively encouraged as it is a great way both to foster club spirit and to recognise the hard work that has been put in by both teachers and students over the year.
Interclub Competitions are a practice run for individual competition. A club will organise and host a competition for three or more clubs. Interclub competitions are friendly and have no bearing on the final end of year competitions. Interclub competitions take place before the years official competitions commence and are a great way for girls and ladies to experience competition conditions and prepare for the coming official competitions.
Team Competitions involve a group of 6 girls or ladies who work together over the course of the year to perfect their precision and unison as a group. Competitions are judged on the precision and unison of the entire team.
Club Competitions involve only the members of your club competing and displaying their individual routines for the year. In the same manner as interclub competitions, club competitions are friendly and have no bearing on the final end of year results.
Champion Girl Heats involves all members competing individually with a goal to qualify for the next stage of competition.
Champion Girl State Final involves all members competing individually with a goal to qualify for the Grand Final.
Champion Girl Grand Final held each year on the last Sunday of November, the top 12 girls and ladies in each age group compete on the grand stage of Sydney Town Hall to be named Champion Girl. The last item in our Grand Final is our pinnacle of competition, our Open Senior girls compete to be named overall Grand Champion Girl.
